How It Works
Percentage Formulas
X% of Y = (X/100) × YPercentage of a value equals the percentage divided by 100, multiplied by the value.
Percentage of a number: (percentage ÷ 100) × value
Percentage change: ((new - old) ÷ old) × 100
Value is what percentage: (value ÷ total) × 100
Important Notes:
- •Percent means 'per hundred' or 'out of 100'
- •50% is equivalent to the fraction 1/2 or the decimal 0.5
- •This calculator rounds results to 2 decimal places for readability

Frequently Asked Questions
To find X% of Y, divide X by 100 to convert it to a decimal, then multiply by Y. For example, 20% of 50 equals 0.20 × 50 = 10.
Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, and multiply by 100. For example, going from 80 to 100: (100 - 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% increase.
A percentage is a way to express a number as a fraction of 100. The word 'percent' literally means 'per hundred'.
